The Ballet Centre offers different kinds of adult dance classes in order to suit people with different needs and styles. After all, if every person has a different personality, they wouldn’t be all able to like the same dance style, right? And, for that reason, the Ballet Centre offers classes such as Modern Dance, Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Tap Dance and Belly Dance. And the nicest part is that most classes are offered in both beginner and intermediate levels, so if you are welcome to join the classes whether you have previous experience or not!

Ballet is known for being the foundation to every other dance style. With gracious, yet highly demanding moves, ballet is one the most classical and beautiful dance forms. Dancers who achieve a solid foundation in ballet can transfer their skills and switch to other dance classes later on such as jazz, modern dance and contemporary dance. Even though it can be a very disciplined dance genre, it is very rewarding and fun. And, if you would like to switch to a different dance style in the future, you will be more prepared to do so.
Contemporary dance is a genre that was born from ballerinas who decided they wanted to innovate and embrace more unconventional movements. Blending techniques from numerous dance genres, it is an interpretative dance with a lot of floor work, improvisation, freedom of movement and fluidity. Which allows the dancers to emotionally express themselves through movement and share that emotion with a possible audience. It’s all about freedom of movement!
Modern dance can be very similar to contemporary dance since it basically paved the way to contemporary dance to be born. However, there are slight differences between the two of them: while contemporary dance has a bigger focus on new techniques and styles, modern dance is all about emotions. Also, modern dance moves are less fluid, because they have stronger roots in ballet and jazz, which are dance genres that focus more on gravity rather than fluidity.
Tap dance is a genre that originated in the United States. It blends English, Scottish, Irish and African dance influences, and consists of the dancer wearing shoes with heel and toe taps that make a loud sound when they hit the floor. So, as the dancers dance along the rhythm of the music, their tapping shoes follow along, striking the floor rhythmically and very precisely.
Its original name being Raqs Sharki, the belly dance is a type of middle eastern dance. It is, usually, performed by a woman and involves undulating belly moves, torso and hip moves. And, even though belly dance is usually a solo act, there are group classes, depending on the studio or how many students are interested.
